Counting Tiles for string quartet (2015)
It is hard to put into words the amount of stress and pressure I was feeling at the end of 2015. My father was ill and the doctors couldn't seem to determine what was wrong with him. I was in the final year of my undergraduate degree and school and composing was often getting pushed aside for family obligations. As I sat looking at the floor, then the ceiling, I began to pass the time by counting the amount of tiles in my father's hospital room. I wrote this piece at his bedside, still unsure of if he would recover.
